Playa Panama

Sunset at Playa Panama

Known as one of the most attractive beaches in Guanacaste. The 2km stretch of Playa Panama’s (aka Playa Chorotega) rock-free, smooth, slate-grey sand is perfect for laying back and soaking up the sun. Positioned south of Culebra Bay, the swimming conditions at Playa Panama are ideal. The often low tides, the calm wave breaks with nearly perfect year-round weather make this beach excellent for activities such as sport fishing, scuba diving/snorkeling, sailing, and kayaking. The gorgeous mangrove swamp and dry forest at Rocha Estuary is a must-see and is within walking distance from the beach.

Once upon a time, Playa Panama had little in the way of development but within the last few decades, the region continues to grow and is now one of the top places in Guanacaste for dining, shopping, golfing, and luxury resorts and accommodations.

Newly well-paved roads allow for seamless travel to and from the Guanacaste International Airport in Liberia. In close proximity to the airport and surrounding beaches, such as Playas del Coco & Playa Hermosa, Playa Panama’s location is ideal for those looking to be nice and close to everything but still enjoy the laidback and tranquil atmosphere.

Playa Panama is a relatively tranquil and private area and is also one of the friendliest places on the northern Guanacaste shores. The large presence of foreigners, that fuel the Guanacaste economy, mix easily with locals who have adapted to these visitors and retirees.
