Playas del Coco

Coco Beach (Playas del Coco) is considered one of the top destinations nationwide. It is well known in the country for its great tourism and economic growth. It is only located just 25km from Liberia airport.

It is the most populated beach in the province of Guanacaste. This quiet beach is mainly a spot for snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing and sailing tours. Also, there are many companies dedicated to providing services for tourists, to assure a good stay in Playas del Coco.

Playas del Coco provides resorts that have a well-developed infrastructure good roads, warehouses, restaurants, bars, discos, casinos, hotels & markets. It has a pleasant nightlife, where you can go out and choose where to spend your evening. The most popular months in this province are from November to April. Where you can see all kinds of domestic and foreign tourists driving on the streets of the beach, visiting souvenir shops with all kinds of souvenirs to bring back to their countries.

 It has gray volcanic sand and an extension of more than 3 miles, the tide always remains calm and is surrounded by forests. At the end of the beach you will find peace, otherwise in the center of town is where it conducts most of the activities.

Tourists love walking on the boardwalk called the "Amor de Temporada" with an approximate length of 420m. The concrete sidewalks and seating allow visitors to settle in and enjoy the beach. The Municipality also planted native trees (almond, palm and olive trees), some underground lighting, basketball courts, beach volleyball, lamp posts, and three park areas.  



Playa Panama

Known as one of the most attractive beaches in Guanacaste. The 2km stretch of Playa Panama’s (aka Playa Chorotega) rock-free, smooth, slate-grey sand is perfect for laying back and soaking up the sun. Positioned south of Culebra Bay, the swimming conditions at Playa Panama are ideal. The often low tides, the calm wave breaks with nearly perfect year-round weather make this beach excellent for activities such as sport fishing, scuba diving/snorkeling, sailing, and kayaking. The gorgeous mangrove swamp and dry forest at Rocha Estuary is a must-see and is within walking distance from the beach.

Once upon a time, Playa Panama had little in the way of development but within the last few decades, the region continues to grow and is now one of the top places in Guanacaste for dining, shopping, golfing, and luxury resorts and accommodations.

Newly well-paved roads allow for seamless travel to and from the newly renovated Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport in Liberia. In close proximity to the airport and surrounding beaches, such as Playas del Coco & Playa Hermosa, Playa Panama’s location is ideal for those looking to be nice and close to everything but still enjoy the laidback and tranquil atmosphere of a gorgeous beach town.

Playa Panama is a relatively tranquil and private area and is also one of the friendliest places on the northern Guanacaste shores. The large presence of foreigners, that fuel the Guanacaste economy, mix easily with locals who have adapted to these visitors and retirees.

Playa Ocotal

Playa Ocotal is a calm, salt and pepper, sandy pocket cove that is only a third of a mile long. It is a small village, located 3km south-west of Playas del Coco in Guanacaste. Known for being one of the best places to scuba dive with the famous Catalina Island nearby is a well-known snorkel site because of its clear waters and abundance of manta rays, tropical fish, turtles, sharks and octopus. Sportfishing, sailing and surfing are also popular activities here. It is one of the cleanest and quietest beaches in the area and has a vast stretch of tropical dry forest that makes it the perfect home to a vast array of wildlife.

Playa Hermosa

While Hermosa Beach maintains an overall laidback atmosphere, it has grown as an epicenter of ongoing development. The town of Hermosa runs from north to south along its beachfront, becoming more sparsely populated toward the south. Large hotel complexes on the northern end head most construction in the area, while the south retains a more relaxed atmosphere. 

Services in town are abundant, offering excellent shopping, food, bars, and tourist activities. The coast of Hermosa Beach is renowned for its outstanding marine fauna, and visitors can enjoy this ocean life through activities such as snorkeling, sport fishing, and Scuba Diving. Horseback riding along the beach is another great way for people to take in the beautiful surroundings.

Accommodations in Hermosa mostly cater to those seeking mid-range or luxury rooms. However, sparse budget rooms are also available. Hermosa Beach is a short 20-minute drive, along a paved road, from Liberia's Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport.  A car trip or bus ride from San Jose takes approximately five hours along the Inter-American Highway.

A number of national parks lie within a short traveling distance from Hermosa Beach: Rincon de la Vieja National Park (Parque Nacional Rincon de la Vieja), Palo Verde National Park (Parque Nacional Palo Verde), and Santa Rosa National Park (Parque Nacional Santa Rosa). These parks provide a great opportunity to view wildlife and experience a few of Costa Rica's diverse ecosystems.

Recently, many luxury hotels have also set up base out in Playa Hermosa to take advantage of the pristine conditions.

Perfect for swimming and scuba diving, Playa Hermosa offers amazing diving safaris and snorkeling opportunities for those who enjoy being out in the sea. With some of the best scuba diving in the country, you can also have great fun renting out kayaks, sailboards, windsurfing equipment, canoes, jet skis and water bikes from the many shops that line the beach.
